Manchester City Pursues Enzo Fernández Amid Price War with Chelsea

Manchester City have not walked away from Enzo Fernández. Far from it.

According to Ben Jacobs, City remain keen on the Chelsea midfielder and are prepared to make a move before the window shuts. Rodri’s completed switch from City to Barcelona has only poured fuel on the story, keeping alive a transfer rumour that looked set to fade a week ago.

City have tracked Fernández all summer, but one figure keeps getting in the way: £120 million. That has been Chelsea’s asking price, and it has so far been high enough to keep the Premier League champions at arm’s length.

Chelsea even tried to draw a line in the sand. The club made it clear last Friday was a “deadline” for any formal offers, a stance that suggested they wanted clarity before the final stretch of the window. It hasn’t scared City off.

Jacobs reports that the champions are “prepared to bid” for the Argentina international as they look to bring in two midfielders before the window closes. The need is obvious after Rodri’s departure. The profile they want is obvious too – and Fernández fits it.

Now comes the hard part.

Chelsea may listen to a huge offer despite their own deadline having passed, but the price has not gone down. If anything, the dynamic has shifted in their favour. Selling Fernández this late would leave them scrambling for a replacement with the clock ticking, and that desperation carries a cost.

They will not want to be the only club overpaying in the final days. So they will push that burden onto City. Any bid now is likely to have to go beyond the £120m previously floated.

City’s interest is real. Chelsea’s stance is firm. The market is tight, the window is running out of days, and one of the most expensive midfield deals in history is sitting there, waiting to be triggered.

If someone blinks, the final week of this window could explode.
