Liverpool Squad Trim: Morrison Joins Sheffield Wednesday on Loan

Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool clear-out is gathering pace, and two young faces are heading for the exit door in search of minutes rather than headlines.

Kieran Morrison, one of the standout performers on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, has completed a season-long loan move to Sheffield Wednesday for the 2026-27 campaign. The winger, just 19, rejected interest from clubs on the continent to drop into League One, convinced that regular starts at Hillsborough will accelerate his development more than a peripheral role elsewhere.

Liverpool moved quickly earlier in the summer to protect their asset, tying Morrison down to a new contract running until 2030. Now they want to see how he copes with the grind of a full league season in a demanding environment.

Another defender is also heading out. Calvin Ramsay is set to join St Mirren on loan in the Scottish Premiership. The 23-year-old right-back, who is out of contract at Anfield next summer, will use the move as a crucial platform at a decisive point in his career.

For Iraola, it’s a necessary tightening of numbers. For Morrison and Ramsay, it’s a decisive test of whether they can turn promise into permanence.
