Inter Milan Secures $40 Million Deal for Curtis Jones
Inter Milan have moved decisively in the final stretch of the window, agreeing a $40 million deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, according to reports in The Athletic, ESPN and Sky Sports.
The 25-year-old leaves Anfield with a year still to run on his contract, ending a Liverpool journey that began in the academy and led to a senior debut in 2019. From promising youngster to established squad figure, Jones has lived almost the full Liverpool story. Now he swaps it for San Siro.
A creative, press-resistant midfielder, Jones produced three goals and three assists across 49 appearances in the 2025-26 campaign. Across his entire Liverpool career, he amassed 22 goals and 22 assists in 228 appearances for the Reds — solid numbers for a player who often operated between the lines rather than as a pure finisher.
The signs of a move had been there. Jones was left out of Liverpool’s last two friendlies, both played on recent Sundays against Como and Monaco. Officially, there was no drama. Unofficially, it looked like a player being wrapped in cotton wool while negotiations gathered pace.
Impact on Liverpool
Liverpool now turn to the start of their Premier League season without one of their long-serving midfield options. They open away to Newcastle on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. EDT in Newcastle upon Tyne, a fixture that already felt demanding before the reshuffle in the middle of the pitch.
Inter's Perspective
For Inter, the timing is perfect. They launch their Serie A campaign at San Siro against Monza on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., and while registration and integration timelines will dictate when Jones can actually feature, Simone Inzaghi has just added another technical midfielder to a group already built on control and rhythm.
A $40 million swing, a homegrown player leaving Anfield, and a title contender in Italy strengthening again — the only question now is how quickly Curtis Jones can turn potential into authority in the black and blue of Inter.
