Jamal Musiala Reveals Neurological Dysfunction Treatment
Jamal Musiala has revealed he is undergoing treatment for a “neurological dysfunction” after collapsing for the second time in four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season schedule.
The 23-year-old went down six minutes after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly win at Heidenheim on Tuesday, appearing dazed as medical staff rushed to his aid before helping him from the pitch. The scene echoed Saturday in Munich, when he also collapsed during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig.
Two incidents. Same player. Same concern.
Musiala moved quickly to address the growing anxiety around his health, posting a detailed message on Instagram to explain the diagnosis and calm fears.
“I've been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote. “These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance - but for me, they're currently just part of my everyday life.
“I'm receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”
Inside the club, Bayern insist they have been fully aware of the issue. After the final whistle at Heidenheim, sporting director Max Eberl underlined that the situation was being handled carefully and that Musiala would speak for himself.
“We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said. “Jamal will speak out. He's in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.”
For Musiala, it is another serious hurdle in a career that has already demanded resilience. He missed the first six months of last season after breaking his ankle at the 2025 Club World Cup, a major setback that wiped out half a campaign. He fought his way back, returned in the second half of the season, and earned a starting place in three of Germany’s four matches at the 2026 World Cup.
Now the battle is different. Not a torn ligament or a broken bone, but a neurological condition he insists is treatable and under control.
Bayern and Germany will watch closely. A key midfielder at 23, Musiala stands at the centre of both club and country’s plans. How he manages this diagnosis – and how quickly he can return to playing without concern – could shape more than just his own season.
