Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapsing on the Pitch

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is living with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, but insists there is no long-term threat to his health and no plans to step away from football.

The Bayern Munich winger went to ground just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in a pre-season friendly against FC Heidenheim on Tuesday night. It echoed a worrying moment from Saturday, when he also collapsed during a friendly against RB Leipzig.

This time, Musiala chose to address the issue head-on.

On Wednesday, the 23-year-old posted a detailed message on Instagram, aiming to calm growing concern around his condition and his future.

“First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support!”

he wrote, before explaining that he has been diagnosed with “brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction.”

Those seizures, he said, can trigger exactly the kind of collapses seen in the Leipzig and Heidenheim games. They look shocking on screen and in the stadium. For Musiala, they have become something he has had to factor into daily life.

“I know they might look alarming at first glance, but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life,”

he continued. He stressed he is under “excellent medical care” and remains “very optimistic,” highlighting the backing he is receiving from FC Bayern and his personal support network.

The key line for worried supporters came next: “Importantly, there is no further health risk involved.”

Musiala explained that, in “close consultation and regular contact with the experts,” he has chosen to keep playing. With medical clearance from neurologists, he believes that staying on the pitch and living as normally as possible is what helps him most.

“It was my personal wish to face this challenge,”

he wrote.

“I want to continue doing what helps my recovery most: simply living my life and pursuing my passion for playing football. I have taken full responsibility for this decision.”

He described himself as feeling “very positive” and “on the right track,” and made it clear that his competitive drive remains undimmed. What helps him most, he said, is “continuing to chase victories and titles” with Bayern, backed by the support of the fans.

Musiala also drew a line around how much more he wants to share. After laying out the diagnosis, he asked for understanding as he tries to keep the matter as private as possible, restricted to “my closest circle, the club, and the medical experts.”

The message was firm, detailed and deliberate: an attempt to answer the questions now, so he can get back to what he intends to keep doing – creating, scoring, and hunting trophies in a Bayern shirt.
