Jamal Musiala Shares Health Update After Neurological Diagnosis

Jamal Musiala says he is “doing well” after being diagnosed with a neurological issue that caused two alarming on-field episodes in four days for Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old collapsed off the ball during Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig, then suffered another incident in Bayern’s final pre-season outing against Heidenheim on Tuesday, forcing him off the pitch shortly after coming on as a substitute and escorted by medical staff.

On Wednesday, Musiala chose to address the situation directly, posting a detailed message on his Instagram account to explain his condition and calm growing concern among fans.

Musiala explains diagnosis

“I’m doing well. I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support,” he wrote, before outlining the diagnosis he has received.

“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to the episodes that have occurred recently, such as against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim.”

The images of him going down unchallenged had sparked immediate fears over a serious health problem. Musiala didn’t hide from that reaction.

“I know that they may seem scary at first glance – but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life,” he continued. “I am receiving the best possible medical treatment for this and I am very optimistic. FC Bayern and the people close to me are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

No further health risk

The Bayern midfielder stressed that specialists have reassured him about the broader implications of the condition.

“The important thing is that there is no further health risk beyond this,” he wrote. In close consultation and “regular communication with the specialists”, Musiala said it was his “personal wish” to keep playing and maintain his routine.

“With the approval of the neurological specialists, [I want] to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football. I have taken responsibility for that decision. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track.”

For Musiala, staying on the pitch is not just about competition. It is part of how he intends to deal with the diagnosis.

“What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team, with your fantastic support,” he added.

Call for privacy

After opening up about his condition, Musiala drew a clear line around how much more he wants to share publicly.

“I hope this helps you understand me a little better,” he wrote. “At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.”

Bayern’s new season is about to begin under Vincent Kompany. One of the club’s brightest talents has made his situation clear: he intends to keep playing, keep competing, and face this challenge on his own terms.
