Vinicius Junior walked off the pitch against Elche frustrated, empty-handed and substituted, but with a message ready for Atletico Madrid: this drought will not last.

The Brazilian forward started Real Madrid’s chaotic 3-2 win in the sixth round of La Liga and tormented Elche’s back line with his movement and pace, yet left without a goal or an assist after passing up a string of clear openings. The chances were there. The finish was not.

As Real Madrid chased the winner, Jose Mourinho decided he had seen enough and replaced Vinicius in the 68th minute. The gamble almost backfired. Elche hung on, the tension rose, and the Bernabeu side needed a stoppage-time strike from Carlos Espi in the 90+1 minute to finally break the deadlock and drag three points out of a game that should have been settled far earlier.

Vinicius knew it.

Later, he took to Instagram, using the Story feature to send a blunt message, both to critics and to Sunday’s opponents.

“My goals will return soon, I cannot keep wasting all these chances! On Sunday more is coming, Hala Madrid,” he wrote.

No ambiguity. No excuses. A promise.

The timing of that statement is impossible to ignore. Real Madrid now turn toward one of their most demanding fixtures of the season: the capital derby against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano in the seventh round of the league campaign.

Against Elche, Vinicius settled for stretching the defence, creating space and driving Real Madrid’s attacks without applying the final touch. He ran, dribbled, combined. The numbers that matter most to forwards—goals, assists—stayed stuck on zero.

He appears to have picked his stage for a response.

With his message, the Brazilian winger has effectively circled the Madrid derby on the calendar as the moment to rediscover his edge in front of goal.
