Troy Parrott's Impact in Betis Victory Over Getafe

Troy Parrott marked his return to the Real Betis starting XI with a sharp, influential display as Manuel Pellegrini’s side edged past Getafe 1-0 in Seville to climb to third in La Liga.

Parrott nearly scores from halfway

Back in the team after remaining on the bench for Monday’s 2-1 win at Villarreal, the 24-year-old Dubliner almost lit up Estadio La Cartuja inside five minutes.

Seizing on a loose Getafe pass on the halfway line, Parrott didn’t hesitate. He looked up and went for the spectacular, lifting an audacious effort over David Soria from distance. The Getafe goalkeeper scrambled back and, at full stretch, managed to tip the ball away. A few inches lower and Parrott would have had a goal-of-the-season contender.

Betis controlled the tempo from there. Getafe sat in, absorbed pressure and invited shots from range. Antony twice found space but lashed efforts over the bar as frustration began to creep around the stands.

Irish striker turns provider

The breakthrough finally arrived on the stroke of half-time, and Parrott was at the heart of it.

Betis built from deep, Abde Ezzalzouli carrying the ball out of midfield before slipping it wide to Antony on the right. As the defence shuffled across, Parrott drifted into a pocket at the edge of the box. The move clicked.

Antony picked him out centrally, Parrott took the ball and returned it across goal into Abde’s path. The winger didn’t hesitate, drilling a low finish past Soria for 1-0 in the 45th minute. Parrott wouldn’t get the goal, but the assist underlined his growing influence in Pellegrini’s system.

Betis hang on as Getafe rally

The second half turned into a test of patience. Getafe dropped even deeper, content to stay compact and wait for a late opportunity, while Betis chased the insurance goal that never came.

Parrott, Isco and Abde all made way midway through the half as Pellegrini reshuffled his attack in search of fresh impetus. The pattern remained the same: Betis probing, Getafe surviving.

As the clock wound down, the visitors finally threw bodies forward. A late surge brought nervous moments for the home crowd, but Betis held their line and saw out the danger to secure the 1-0 win.

Betis rising, Parrott building momentum

The victory lifts Betis to third place on 15 points, level with Real Madrid and behind only on goal difference. Barcelona sit clear at the top with a perfect six wins from six and 18 points.

For Parrott, it’s another step in a promising start to life in Seville. A fortnight ago he came off the bench to score the winner against Real Madrid in his first home appearance at Estadio La Cartuja, handing José Mourinho’s side their first defeat of the season.

Now he has a standout assist and another three points on the board.

The question is no longer whether he belongs at this level. It’s how far he can push Betis in a title race that suddenly looks very real.
