Tottenham's Bold Lineup Against Newcastle United

Roberto De Zerbi has rolled the dice again.

Tottenham’s head coach has named a bold, attacking side to face Newcastle United on Saturday, intent on stretching his unbeaten home run as Spurs boss to six matches in all competitions.

That sequence, which includes a summer friendly win over Hoffenheim, was reinforced in midweek with a thumping 5-1 victory against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup. The brief is clear now: turn early-season promise at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium into a Premier League statement.

Marmoush straight in, Savio ruled out

New signing Omar Marmoush wastes no time. Fresh from completing an initial loan move from Manchester City, he goes straight into the XI to lead the line.

One notable absentee, though, is Savio. De Zerbi revealed to Sky Sports that the forward was ruled out late.

“There was bad news yesterday, before training in the afternoon. He suffered muscle fatigue and the medical staff didn’t want to take a risk. I agree with them,” the Italian explained, adding that Savio is expected to be available for the trip to Nottingham Forest next week.

Porro and Van de Ven handed first starts

Pedro Porro, a World Cup winner and a key attacking outlet from deep, makes his first start of the season. De Zerbi appears ready to unleash him higher up the pitch on the right, ahead of Archie Gray, to pin Newcastle back and stretch the game.

At the heart of the defence, captain Micky van de Ven also comes in for his first start of the campaign. His recovery pace will be vital against the threat of Anthony Elanga, with De Zerbi clearly mindful of Newcastle’s speed on the break.

On the left, Destiny Udogie is managed carefully after his strong midweek display. Andy Robertson steps in at left-back, bringing experience and balance to a back line that has been tweaked with this specific contest in mind.

Tonali–Bentancur axis in midfield

In midfield, De Zerbi goes with a heavyweight pairing: Sandro Tonali alongside Rodrigo Bentancur. It’s a combination built for control and aggression, with both players comfortable dictating tempo and breaking lines.

Ahead of them, Mateus Fernandes is expected to operate in the central attacking role, linking play and pressing high. Conor Gallagher and Lucas Bergvall provide energy and craft from the bench, giving De Zerbi options to change the rhythm later on.

Big names left out as exits loom

Mohammed Kudus returns to the matchday squad and starts among the substitutes after resuming full training, another dangerous option waiting in reserve.

There is no place, however, for Richarlison, Kevin Danso or Pape Matar Sarr. All three have been heavily linked with moves away from north London, and their omission only fuels the sense that this Tottenham squad is being reshaped decisively, and quickly.

De Zerbi has shown his hand. Now it’s down to this new-look Spurs side to prove that midweek fireworks can translate into Premier League points.
