Tchouaméni Boost for Real Madrid Before La Liga Opener

Real Madrid’s midfield plans for the start of La Liga have cleared up at just the right moment. Aurélien Tchouaméni, who had been a doubt days before the new campaign, is expected to be ready for the opening clash with Espanyol.

The French international had been sidelined by a muscle strain that kept him out of several recent training sessions. His absence raised concerns inside the club, with the league kick-off looming and Carlo Ancelotti already juggling minutes after the players’ summer exertions.

Spanish radio station Cope reporter Arancha Rodríguez reported on Sunday that Tchouaméni should be fit to face Espanyol next Saturday in the first round of the Spanish league.

That news lands as a clear lift for Los Blancos, who see the 24-year-old as a key pillar in the heart of their midfield.

Tchouaméni returned to training with Real Madrid after his World Cup duties with France, but the muscular problem forced him onto an individual programme. He worked alone at first, away from the main group, managing his workload while the medical staff monitored every step.

The recovery has gone to plan. His condition improved steadily, and he has moved closer to a full return to normal training, easing fears of a longer lay-off.

Real Madrid now head into their final pre-season test with better news than they might have expected a week ago. They face German side Schalke on Sunday in their last friendly before the serious business begins away to Espanyol.

One more match to tune up. And, crucially for Madrid, one more match with the prospect of Tchouaméni back in the engine room.
