Syracuse Falls to Boston College 2–0 Despite Dominating Play

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse walked off the Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field on Friday night with the stat sheet, but not the result.

The Orange fired 19 shots at Boston College. They owned territory, pushed the tempo, and forced the Eagles to defend for long stretches. None of it mattered on the scoreboard.

Boston College, outshot 19-8, made its chances count and walked away with a 2–0 win, handing Syracuse its second straight conference defeat and dropping the Orange to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.

Syracuse wastes its chances

From the opening whistle, Syracuse played on the front foot. They created looks, tested the back line, and kept the ball moving in the final third. The problem was the finish. Shots sailed wide, hit bodies, or floated harmlessly into the keeper’s hands. Pressure, but no breakthrough.

The game flipped after halftime.

In the 53rd minute, Michael Asare punished Syracuse’s wastefulness, putting Boston College on the board with a composed finish that cut straight against the run of play. One clear look, one goal. The kind of ruthlessness Syracuse lacked all night.

The Orange chased the game from there, throwing numbers forward, but the cutting edge never arrived.

Eagles land the knockout blow

As Syracuse pushed higher, the gaps grew. Boston College didn’t need many invitations.

Russell Brown delivered the decisive moment, adding an insurance goal that effectively killed off the contest. He finished off a move created by Moritz Gundelach, whose assist carved open the Syracuse defense and gave Brown the space he needed to double the lead.

At the other end, Syracuse couldn’t find a response. Kyle Jansen faced only one shot on target in net for the Orange, but the damage came at the other end, where missed opportunities piled up.

Syracuse now turns quickly to its next test, a trip to Colgate on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m., needing not more shots, but sharper ones.
