Scott McTominay to Undergo Heart Procedure After Arrhythmia Diagnosis

Napoli have confirmed that Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo a minor heart procedure after the discovery of what the club describe as “a mild benign arrhythmia”.

The 29-year-old was withdrawn after 56 minutes of Sunday’s 2-1 Serie A defeat away to Como, a substitution that at the time looked routine. Tests since then have revealed the irregular heartbeat, prompting specialists to recommend corrective treatment in the coming days.

Napoli stressed the issue is minor and expect McTominay to be back in action shortly after the international break in early October. The player moved quickly to reassure supporters as well, posting on Instagram: “See you soon Napoli. I won't take long.”

Impact on Scotland National Team

The timeline, though, delivers an early problem for new Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli. McTominay is now likely to miss Pocognoli’s first four matches in charge – a home-and-away double-header against Slovenia, followed by Nations League fixtures against North Macedonia and Switzerland.

For club and country, the priority is clear: get the midfielder fully right before he returns to the pitch.
