Regis Le Bris Faces Key Decisions Ahead of Critical Match

Regis Le Bris knows this one carries weight. It’s only the second game of the season, but after that chaotic defeat at Ipswich and a brutal run of fixtures looming, this afternoon already feels like a checkpoint. Points aren’t just welcome; they’re needed.

The manager’s biggest calls sit in two areas: the heart of defence and the wide roles. Ballard, O’Nien and Omar Alderete struggled badly last weekend, while Trai Hume, Nilson Angulo, Talbi and Rigg all fell short of their usual levels. Le Bris has decisions to make, and not much margin for error.

Roefs to stand firm

In goal, Robin Roefs is expected to keep his place. He was hung out to dry for both Ipswich goals, left with little protection in front of him, but he comes into this one on the back of signing a new contract. A clean sheet and three points would be the perfect way to mark it. The responsibility in front of him must be sharper; he cannot be exposed like that again.

Alderete, meanwhile, appeared miles short of match sharpness at Ipswich, but a full week of training should give him a platform to reclaim his place and find something closer to his true level.

Midfield continuity amid early-season rust

Across midfield, Le Bris is expected to stick rather than twist. Hume, Enzo Le Fée, Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki and Angulo are all tipped to start again.

Hume is likely to reprise his hybrid defensive role, tucking in and shuttling between lines, even if there’s a strong argument for Rigg or Talbi to come in after last weekend’s underwhelming showing. Le Bris, though, is not a manager who panics after one bad day.
