Aurélien Tchouaméni and Endrick both miss out, ruled out by separate physical issues that continue to shape Mourinho’s early-season plans. To plug the gaps, the coach has dipped into the club’s academy, calling up youngsters Mario Rivas, Sicetero and Alexis Ceria.

Tchouaméni’s stop-start campaign goes on. Since returning from the leave granted to him after the World Cup, the midfielder has been hampered by persistent pain and has managed only a handful of appearances with the first team. The discomfort has not eased enough for him to be involved, and he drops out of contention again for the third round of La Liga.

Endrick’s absence is of a different nature. The forward is following a specific programme drawn up to protect him across the entire season, with Real Madrid opting for caution rather than risk. The plan is designed to keep him free of recurring physical problems, even if that means missing another matchday squad at this early stage.

At the back, Raúl Asencio is also unavailable, with shin trouble ruling the defender out of the trip.

They are not alone on the treatment table. Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo and Thiago Pitarch are also sidelined and will play no part against Malaga, leaving Mourinho to reshuffle again.
