Penybont Secures Unbeaten Start in Cymru Premier with 1-0 Win

Penybont dug in to preserve their unbeaten start to the Cymru Premier season, edging past Colwyn Bay 1-0 and climbing to sixth after a bruising afternoon.

The win came at a cost. Inside the opening 20 minutes, summer signings Jonathan Leko and Ryan Hill were both forced off, leaving the hosts scrambling to reshuffle before the game had even settled. Any early rhythm disappeared. This became a test of resilience.

And from the disruption came the decisive moment.

Substitute Owain Pritchard seized his chance, pouncing when Bay keeper Mark Halstead misjudged a routine situation. The ball broke kindly, and Pritchard reacted quickest, stabbing home from close range to give Penybont the lead.

The pressure almost broke Colwyn Bay again soon after. Veteran forward Chris Venables, still as sharp as ever, rose to meet a cross and crashed his effort against the crossbar with Halstead beaten. A fraction lower and the contest might have been over before the interval.

Instead, Bay stayed alive and grew into the game after the break. They pushed higher, committed more bodies forward and began to ask serious questions of the Penybont back line.

Young goalkeeper Daniel Higgs supplied the answers.

He stood firm to deny Callum Bratley, then reacted sharply to keep out Ethan Roberts as the visitors chased an equaliser. Each save tightened Penybont’s grip on the points, each clearance drew them a step closer to the final whistle.

Colwyn Bay kept coming, but Bont would not yield. Injuries, pressure, late chances against them – they absorbed it all and walked away with the win, their unbeaten record intact and their season quietly gathering momentum.
