Penybont’s unbeaten start to the Cymru Premier season survived a serious early scare and a late Colwyn Bay surge, squeezed into a gritty 1-0 win that owed everything to a substitute’s sharpness and a young goalkeeper’s nerve.

The afternoon began badly for the hosts. Inside the opening 20 minutes, two of their headline summer signings, Jonathan Leko and Ryan Hill, were both forced off through injury. Any early rhythm Rhys Griffiths had planned disappeared in an instant, the bench called into action far earlier than expected.

Yet from that disruption came the game’s decisive moment.
