Nathan Broadhead Ruled Out of Wales’ Nations League Campaign
Nathan Broadhead has been ruled out of Wales’ upcoming Nations League campaign after suffering a thigh injury in training with Wrexham.
The 28-year-old forward, named in Craig Bellamy’s 28-man squad for top-tier Nations League A fixtures against Portugal, Norway and a double header with Denmark, has been forced to withdraw and will also miss Wrexham’s Championship clash with Southampton on Saturday (15:00 BST).
“Broady has strained his thigh in training, which is a shame because he was training well,” Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said. “That’s going to keep him out for the weekend but there’s nothing new from that.”
Asked directly if the problem would rule Broadhead out of the Wales camp, Parkinson’s answer was short and decisive: “Yes.”
It is another frustrating halt in momentum for the 20-cap international. Broadhead started Wrexham’s first three Championship matches of the season, then dropped out of the side and played no part in fixtures against Millwall, Swansea City, Burnley and West Ham United.
Upcoming Matches
For Bellamy, it means a reshuffle ahead of a demanding run that opens in Lisbon, where Wales face Portugal on 24 September. From there, they head to Copenhagen to meet Denmark, before returning to Cardiff to host World Cup quarter-finalists Norway on 1 October and then facing the Danes again on 4 October.
A gruelling schedule, now without one of Wales’ more versatile attacking options.
