Mbappé Leads Real Madrid Against Málaga in LaLiga Showdown

Eight years is a long time in Spanish football. Managers change, squads are rebuilt, stars arrive and leave. But on matchweek 3 of the LaLiga 2026-27 season, an old fixture returns to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu: Real Madrid vs Málaga CF, meeting for the first time since 2018.

They have history with Madrid, but not recent success. The gap in squad quality is stark, and with Mourinho’s side hunting a third straight victory to keep their perfect start intact, the visitors know they will have to suffer without the ball for long stretches.

Madrid, on the other hand, will expect to dominate. They want points, but they also want control – and, after two games without one, a first clean sheet of the season.
