Martin Sherif Charged by FA Over Betting Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations spanning a 15‑month period.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026.

In a statement, the FA said: “Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules. It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

He has been given until Monday, 17 August to answer the charge.

Young career jolted off course

Born in Liberia, Sherif moved into Everton’s academy in 2019 and worked his way through the youth ranks before stepping up to train with the first team in early 2025. His progress had marked him out as one of the more intriguing attacking prospects at the club.

Last summer, Everton sent him on loan to League One side Rotherham United. He scored twice in 10 appearances, only for injuries to cut that spell short and trigger a recall in December.

Once fit again, Sherif returned to League One in February, this time with Port Vale for the remainder of the campaign. He again found the net twice, this time across 17 league games, as Vale slid to relegation.

Now, instead of focusing on the next step of his development, the forward faces a very different battle: clearing his name or preparing for the consequences of a betting case that could shape the next phase of his career.
