Ligue 1 Predictions: Strasbourg vs Monaco Showdown

The predictions duel is back for the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season, and the gap is already widening. GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle has sprinted out of the blocks and leads the internal table on 15 points, while sub-editor Bastien Cheval sits on 8. The rules are simple, the rivalry is not: three points for a perfect scoreline, two for the right goal difference, one for the correct result.

Across the season, guests will join the contest. For now, it’s Luke versus Bastien – and a standout fixture in Alsace.

Game of the week: RC Strasbourg Alsace v AS Monaco

Saturday, 16:15 (UK)

All roads this weekend seem to lead to the Meinau. Strasbourg, the league’s most explosive attack, welcome an AS Monaco side that suddenly look like a machine.

Since Filipe Luís took over, Monaco have been flawless: five wins from five, capped by a statement victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes last week. Les Monégasques boast the best defence in the division, drilled, disciplined and largely unchanged since the Brazilian’s arrival.

That continuity takes a hit now. Mamadou Coulibaly has been ruled out with a quadriceps injury, forcing Luís into his first real reshuffle. Until this point, Monaco’s strength has been a settled side; on Saturday, that security blanket disappears.

Strasbourg arrive in a very different mood, but with equally sharp teeth. Le Racing put six past ESTAC Troyes last weekend, a ruthless attacking display that underlined their status as Ligue 1’s most prolific frontline. Two weeks ago, they showed they can do it against stronger opposition too, beating RC Lens 2-1 at a bouncing Meinau. No new injuries, no returns – just the same group that has been cutting through defences.

Something has to crack. The league’s stingiest back line against its most dangerous attack, a manager yet to drop a point against a team that smells blood. It feels like a fixture that could bend the early-season narrative.

Luke’s Ligue 1 predictions

  • Rennes v Marseille – 3-1
  • Strasbourg v Monaco – 2-2
  • Le Havre v Angers – 1-0
  • Auxerre v Nice – 0-1
  • Lorient v Toulouse – 0-2
  • Paris FC v Lyon – 2-1
  • Lille v Troyes – 3-0
  • Le Mans v Lens – 1-1
  • Brest v PSG – 0-2

Luke leans towards goals in Alsace and another bump in the road for Lyon, while backing Lille and PSG to win with authority.

Bastien’s predictions

  • Rennes v Marseille – 3-1
  • Strasbourg v Monaco – 2-2
  • Auxerre v Nice – 0-1
  • Le Havre v Angers – 1-1
  • Lorient v Toulouse – 1-0
  • Paris FC v Lyon – 2-1
  • Lille v Troyes – 1-0
  • Le Mans v Lens – 2-1
  • Brest v PSG – 0-2

Bastien mirrors Luke on the headline clashes – Rennes-Marseille, Strasbourg-Monaco, Paris FC-Lyon and Brest-PSG – but looks for tighter margins in Lille and a different script in Le Mans.

They agree on the draw in the game of the week. They agree PSG will do the job in Brest. Everywhere else, the margins are thin, the stakes are growing, and the points gap is already on the line.

By Saturday night, will Luke pull clear, or can Bastien drag himself back into the race before the season truly bites?
