Inzaghi Cuts Players Ahead of Al-Hilal vs Al-Ahli Clash
Simone Inzaghi has drawn a hard line ahead of Al-Hilal’s showdown with Al-Ahli, cutting three players from his squad for tonight’s clash at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
The Italian coach has omitted Turkey’s Yusuf Akcicek, France’s Simon Bouabre and local midfielder Abdullah Al-Anazi from the matchday group for the third round of the Saudi Roshn League.
Each case tells a different story. Akcicek is sidelined by a minor knee bruise, not serious but enough for Inzaghi to rule out any risk. Bouabre stays back as well, still short of full match fitness and not yet ready for the intensity of a top-of-the-table battle.
Al-Anazi’s absence is the most brutal of the three. No injury, no fitness issue – he is simply not in the technical staff’s plans for this game.
One key name does survive the cut. English striker Wally Watkins is included in the squad, though his actual involvement will be decided late. Inzaghi will make the final call after the team’s technical meeting before they leave for the stadium, keeping Al-Ahli guessing over whether the forward will start, come off the bench, or watch from the sidelines.
Al-Hilal enter the night sitting second in the Roshn League table with 9 points from 3 matches, three behind leaders Al-Nassr. The gap, though, comes with a twist: “the Boss” still have a game in hand.
Al-Ahli arrive in Riyadh in seventh place on 6 points from 3 games, close enough to feel the heat from the top. A positive result against Al-Hilal would not just lift them up the standings – it would announce their intent in a title race that is already starting to take shape.
