Inter Without Calhanoglu for Udinese Clash
Inter head into Monday night’s Serie A meeting with Udinese without one of their key reference points in midfield, as Cristian Chivu leaves Hakan Calhanoglu out of the squad due to muscular fatigue.
The Turkish playmaker has not even made the bench at San Siro. Pre-match reports, including those from Gianluca Di Marzio, confirm adductor fatigue as the reason for his exclusion, a precaution that removes Inter’s usual metronome from the heart of the pitch on a busy Monday evening in Serie A, which also features Torino vs. Roma and Como vs. Parma.
Calhanoglu out, doubts for Roma
Inter insist this is not viewed as a serious or long-term problem. The club will monitor Calhanoglu day by day, but his presence for Saturday night’s high-profile clash with Roma is already in doubt, adding a layer of uncertainty to Chivu’s plans for the week.
For now, though, Inter must adapt on the fly.
New look in the middle
With Calhanoglu sidelined, Chivu has reshaped his midfield. Inter start with a trio of Nicolo Barella, Piotr Zielinski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with Zielinski asked to operate in the deepest role usually occupied by Calhanoglu.
It is a subtle but significant shift: Barella’s energy, Mkhitaryan’s intelligence and Zielinski’s calm on the ball now carry the responsibility of keeping Inter’s rhythm intact without their usual holding midfielder. How well that balance holds may say plenty about Inter’s options for the days leading into Roma.
