He is set to return to the XI, lining up in a back three alongside Semi Ajayi and John Egan – the core of that stubborn defensive wall Hull are building their season on.

Oscar Zambrano has shaken off a hamstring problem, yet his recovery comes with a twist: he has been left out of Hull’s 25-man Premier League squad. That decision sharpens the battle for midfield places, with Matt Crooks, Lucas Gourna-Douath, Christos Mouzakitis and Jens Hjerto-Dahl all pushing to partner Regan Slater in the engine room.

Up front, the numbers tell a curious story. Oli McBurnie has not scored this season, but his work without the ball has been relentless. He leads the division for high-intensity pressures, harrying defenders and setting the tone from the front. His next appearance could be his 100th in the Premier League – a milestone he will not want to mark quietly.
