Hibs Boss David Gray Sees Chance to Change Home Form Narrative

Hibs boss David Gray insists he is not losing sleep over Hibernian’s grim run of home league form – and sees this week as a chance to flip the narrative.

Hibs have lost five Scottish Premiership games in a row at Easter Road, a sequence that has stripped the place of its usual swagger and turned every misplaced pass into a groan. They have not won a home league match since April, when they swept Kilmarnock aside 3-0.

Kilmarnock are back in Leith on Tuesday night (19:45 BST). The symmetry is obvious. So is the opportunity.

Since that comfortable victory over the Ayrshire side, Hibs have been beaten at home by Hearts twice, Motherwell twice and Celtic. The results column is brutal. Gray, though, argues it does not tell the full story.

“There have been some really positive performances at home. It's definitely in us,” he said, as he looked ahead to a pivotal double-header at Easter Road.

For the head coach, this week is about more than just halting a statistic.

“Big chance here, two home games to get into this international break in a really strong position,” Gray said, with Aberdeen also visiting on Saturday. Two matches, six points on offer, and a chance to change the mood around the club before the league pauses.

Gray is well aware of the numbers being thrown around about Hibs’ home form, but he is refusing to let them dictate the storyline.

“You can find a stat to drive whatever narrative you're looking for,” he said. “I look at them all in isolation, in games. The only stat, the only thing that matters, is that score in the top corner of the screen when it's on the telly.”

That is the challenge now. Turn decent spells of play into something more tangible. Turn performances into points.

“For us to be successful, you need strong home form and we've got a chance, with back-to-back games, to try and put that right,” Gray added.

Kilmarnock first. Aberdeen next. Two nights under the lights at Easter Road that will tell plenty about where Hibs are really heading this season.
