Harding Soccer's Streak Ends with Loss to Washburn

SEARCY, Ark. — For 45 minutes on Sunday, Harding did what it has done better than anyone else to start the 2026 season: refuse to break.

Another match, another scoreless first half. Another opponent frustrated at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

This time, though, the dam finally burst.

Washburn struck twice in a brutal two-minute spell early in the second half and walked away with a 2-0 non-conference win, handing the Lady Bisons a home defeat and preserving the Ichabods’ unbeaten start.

First-half resistance holds again

Harding, now 1-2-2, extended one of the strangest streaks in college soccer. All five of its matches this season have gone to halftime locked at 0-0.

Washburn came out on the front foot, pushing numbers forward and testing Harding’s shape from the opening whistle. The Ichabods applied early pressure, created chances, and forced the Lady Bisons into long spells of defending.

Harding’s back line answered every question in that first half. Blocks, clearances, and timely challenges kept Washburn out, sending the teams into the break still level and the Lady Bisons’ defensive run intact.

Two minutes that changed everything

The restart flipped the script.

Washburn finally turned pressure into points in the 57th minute, breaking the deadlock and seizing a 1-0 lead. Before Harding could settle, the visitors pounced again. Just one minute later, in the 58th, the Ichabods doubled their advantage and effectively killed off the contest.

Those two quick blows gave Washburn all it needed to secure the road victory and stay unbeaten on the year.

Harding’s attack still searching

Harding tried to answer on the counter, looking to spring forward once it won the ball, but the final touch never arrived. The Lady Bisons created moments, but Washburn’s back line stood firm when it mattered most.

The shot totals told the story of a game that never fully tilted either way: Washburn outshot Harding 16-13 overall, with both sides recording eight attempts after halftime. Harding found ways into dangerous areas but couldn’t turn those looks into goals.

Harding turns immediately toward Great American Conference play, opening its conference schedule on Wednesday at East Central.
