Galatasaray's Bold Move for Bruno Fernandes

Galatasaray are preparing one of the boldest moves of the summer: a double-pronged assault to prise Bruno Fernandes away from Manchester United.

The Turkish champions, emboldened by their domestic dominance and favourable tax laws, are ready to test United’s resolve and the midfielder’s loyalty with a package that would transform the 31-year-old’s earnings and status in Istanbul.

Galatasaray’s big swing

According to reports from The Telegraph and Ben Jacobs, Galatasaray are set to table a €50m (£42.8m) offer to United while putting a four-year contract on the table for Fernandes.

This is not a token bid. It is a statement.

Club president Dursun Özbek is described as “determined” to land the United captain, with the proposed deal worth around €21m (£18.3m) net per season, plus a €4m signing-on bonus. Thanks to Turkey’s tax system, that would effectively double Fernandes’ current take-home pay at Old Trafford.

For a player who once turned down colossal money from the Saudi Pro League, it is another reminder of just how highly he is valued across world football.

Contract clock ticking

Fernandes’ contractual situation has opened the door, at least in theory.

The £57m release clause in his United deal has now expired, but his current terms only run for another year. United do hold an option to extend by 12 months, yet the lack of a fresh long-term agreement has alerted ambitious clubs.

Fernandes is believed to be on roughly £200,000 a week at Old Trafford. Galatasaray’s proposal would blow that out of the water, and at 31, this is the kind of offer that can define the financial side of a player’s career.

The timing is no accident. With the final year of his deal underway, this is when Europe’s big hitters usually circle.

United’s stance: not for sale

The answer from Manchester, though, is clear.

The Telegraph, BBC Sport and Ben Jacobs all report that United have no intention of selling Fernandes this summer, regardless of the size of the bid. Internally, club officials still see him as central to Michael Carrick’s plans and a cornerstone for the next phase of the rebuild.

United want to keep building around him, not cash in on him.

TEAMtalk also reported last week that the club will resist interest and keep Fernandes beyond this window, even as more suitors line up.

Fernandes’ loyalty and long game

The player’s own position only strengthens United’s hand.

BBC Sport report that Fernandes’ priority is to stay at Old Trafford. He remains fiercely loyal to the club, despite knowing he could earn significantly more elsewhere. That loyalty already showed last summer, when he rejected a huge offer from Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League to continue chasing major honours in England and Europe.

There is realism, too. Fernandes could yet choose to end his career in a more lucrative league to secure his family’s long-term future. But for now, he believes he still has plenty to give at the highest level in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

So Galatasaray are ready, the money is real, and the contract is tempting.

But as things stand, United are holding firm, and their captain is still looking at Old Trafford, not Rams Park.
