Rodri Arrives in Barcelona to Complete Major Transfer from Manchester City
Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder, has arrived at Barcelona's private terminal, ready to finalize his transfer. He is set to sign a long-term contract lasting until 2030 with the Catalan club.
Challenges in Securing the Deal
The journey to this agreement wasn’t straightforward for Barcelona. Manchester City initially rejected two formal offers before finally approving the transfer on Sunday afternoon. The deal's scale is significant, as Rodri will commit to the Blaugrana for four years.
Throughout negotiations, Rodri favored Barcelona’s offer, turning down interest from other major European clubs, including their historic rivals. His agent revealed that Real Madrid had presented an offer he found hard to ignore, but Rodri’s preference was to fit into Barca’s style of play. Offers from Paris Saint-Germain and other clubs were also declined.
Excitement on Arrival
Accompanied by his family, Rodri arrived at El Prat airport's private terminal, greeted by eager fans and the media. Speaking to reporters, he shared his relief that the transfer was nearing completion. “Very happy to arrive. These have been intense days, but I’m happy everything has been resolved,” he said.
Playing for Barca is a dream for me. I’m really looking forward to meeting my teammates, many of whom I already know from the national team. Now it’s time to work and give my best. Let’s go for the Champions League and everything that comes our way.
Next Steps: Medical and Official Signing
After arriving, Rodri is expected to head to his hotel before meeting key club figures like Joan Laporta and Deco over dinner. He will undergo his medical exam at the club’s training facilities early the next day. If all goes well, he will sign the contract alongside the club officials.
Legal teams from Barcelona are preparing for a possible presentation of Rodri around 1 p.m. the following day, allowing supporters to welcome their new signing officially.
Debut Delayed by Fitness Checks
Barcelona plans to introduce Rodri during the 61st Joan Gamper Trophy match against Egyptian side Al Ahly. However, he won’t feature in that game since he hasn’t yet trained with the squad.
