Erling Haaland is still the default captain in Fantasy Premier League. That hasn’t changed. But Gameweek 2 offers a genuine, data-backed alternative – and his name is Bruno Fernandes.

The Manchester United playmaker, priced at £12.0m, faces promoted Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday. It’s exactly the kind of home fixture where he has repeatedly punished those who looked elsewhere.

Haaland, at £15.5m, opens the Gameweek away to Crystal Palace on Friday night. He was the standout away performer in 2025/26. Fernandes was the king of home returns. Gameweek 2 is that clash of profiles.

Strip away the habit of auto-captaining Haaland and focus on the data and fixtures.

Fernandes at home to Ipswich, on the back of his 2025/26 Old Trafford record, looks the standout pick. His combination of consistency and explosive potential on his own turf makes too strong a case to ignore. He should be backed to outscore Haaland in Gameweek 2.

Behind him, Odegaard and Palmer sit in that next tier of options. The fixture just nudges the Arsenal captain into third place in the captaincy race, with Palmer close behind.

Haaland will still carry the majority of armbands. But Gameweek 2 is not about safety. It’s about whether you trust the numbers enough to turn away from the template and let Fernandes lead your charge.
