Eiran Cashin Out for Eight Weeks: Derby's Defensive Setback

Derby County’s defensive plans have been hit hard with Eiran Cashin set to miss around two months after suffering a calf injury.

The centre-back, who returned to Pride Park at the start of the month on loan from Brighton for the rest of the season, had only just re-established himself in familiar surroundings. A product of Derby’s academy and a veteran of 144 appearances in his first spell, his comeback was meant to add steel and leadership to John Eustace’s back line.

He went straight into the side, starting in back-to-back defeats against West Brom and Birmingham and staying on the pitch for almost the full 90 minutes in both games. Then came the first warning sign: Cashin was nowhere to be seen in the matchday squad for the clash with Burnley.

The reason became clear soon after.

“Cash is out now for about eight weeks, he’s done his calf,” manager John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby.

For a Derby team trying to build momentum under Eustace, losing a defender of Cashin’s stature so soon after his return is a sharp setback. The Rams must now navigate a crucial stretch of the season without one of their most trusted figures at the heart of defence.
