Daniel Maldini Involved in Car Accident After Cagliari Victory

Daniel Maldini had barely finished being the hero of Cagliari’s weekend when his night took a frightening turn on the streets of Milan.

Fresh from scoring the decisive penalty in Cagliari’s win over Atalanta in Bergamo on Saturday, September 12, the forward was involved in a dramatic car accident at dawn on Sunday. The crash happened at around 5:15 a.m., at the junction of Via Tolentino and Via Francesco Caracciolo, after a night out in the city.

What began as a collision between two cars quickly turned into a three-vehicle mess. After the initial impact, one of the cars slammed into a parked Mercedes SUV in a residents’ parking bay, adding to the chaos in the early-morning quiet.

Emergency services moved fast. Three ambulances and a medical car were dispatched to the scene, with six people reported to have suffered minor injuries. Five of them, including Maldini, were taken to hospital for checks.

The Cagliari striker was transported to Fatebenefratelli Hospital as a precaution. His visit was brief.

“After a brief checkup with a code blue at the emergency room, Daniel was immediately released and returned home. He is in good health,” said his lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno. “Daniel is fine and has not suffered any injuries, let alone serious ones.”

The relief around Maldini’s condition contrasts sharply with the violence of the impact being pieced together by investigators. Early indications suggest a car travelling along Via Caracciolo collided with Maldini’s vehicle as it emerged from Piazza Caneva. According to the reconstruction so far, Maldini’s car did not yield the right of way, leading to contact between the front left of his vehicle and the front right of the oncoming car.

That first hit then sent the other vehicle careering into the stationary Mercedes SUV, turning a routine Milan junction into a crash scene scattered with debris and flashing lights.

Local authorities are still working to clarify every detail of the collision, but for Maldini the immediate fear has passed. No fractures. No serious trauma. Just a scare, some paperwork, and a long exhale.

With medical checks completed and his legal team offering reassurance, the 22-year-old can turn his attention back to the pitch. From the spot-kick pressure in Bergamo to a dawn crash in Milan, his weekend swung violently in the space of a few hours.

Now comes the return to normality. Cagliari expect him back at training as they step up preparations for their next Serie A tests, hoping that the only drama involving Daniel Maldini for the rest of the season comes inside the penalty area.
