Since then, though, they have stalled in second gear. Three draws from four league games have left them unbeaten, but not exactly flying.

They are hard to beat. They are also still searching for rhythm.

What they do have is history on their side. This ground has not been kind to Chelsea. The visitors have not left Brentford with a league win since 2021, a run that has turned this compact, noisy stadium into something of a bogey venue for them. Every misplaced pass here seems to echo a little louder, every defensive slip feels inevitable.
