Brown Bears Secure 1-0 Victory Against Saint Peter's

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The chances kept coming for Brown. The goal refused to arrive. Then, in the 86th minute, Lorenzo Amaral finally ripped the night open.

His late strike delivered a 1-0 win over Saint Peter's at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday, pushing the Bears to 2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at home.

Amaral, who had been the constant threat all evening, buried his second goal of the year after linking up with Carlo Brown and Alex Sauerbrei. It was a finish that had been building all game. Brown outshot Saint Peter's 12-7, and Amaral alone accounted for half of the Bears’ efforts, finishing with a game-high six shots.

First Half

Before the breakthrough, it was a tense, cagey contest. The first half ended scoreless, but not for lack of intent from the hosts. Brown controlled much of the play and held a 6-3 edge in shots over the opening 45 minutes, with Amaral firing five of them as he repeatedly tested the Peacocks’ back line.

Second Half

Saint Peter's absorbed pressure and leaned on goalkeeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen to keep them level. He came up big again in the second half. Midway through the period, Mateo Pereyra forced Heredia-Randen into a save that led to a corner. Off that set piece, James Snaith let fly from the top of the 18-yard box, only for the Saint Peter's keeper to turn it aside once more.

At the other end, Brown’s new man in goal handled his own debut with composure. Making his first-ever start for the Bears, Graham Kois faced seven shots and needed just two saves, but both were important in preserving the clean sheet and setting the stage for the late winner.

The pressure finally told in the dying minutes, and Amaral made sure Brown’s dominance was reflected on the scoreboard.

Next up, the Bears look to keep their home form rolling. They return to Stevenson-Pincince Field on Friday, Sept. 11, when they host Stonehill under the lights, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
