Brentford Crush Chelsea 3-0 to Climb to Third Place

Schuster was clear about what changed.

“I think when the second half began we played it more directly forward and we scored after that so I'm just happy,” he told Sky Sports, refusing to bask in the individual acclaim that followed. “I don't care about my performance. I just want to help the team, get the clean sheet and the three points. Hopefully I get many more minutes.”

He had every right to enjoy it. Twelve clearances, 16 defensive contributions in total, and a clean sheet against Chelsea underline why he walked away with the player of the match award. Yet he kept steering the spotlight back to the collective.

Emerging set-piece weapon

This was not just a night for last-ditch defending. Schuster also underlined why the coaching staff have been pushing him to become a genuine danger at dead balls.

“They always tell me I have a potential on set pieces but there wasn't a lot of outcome on this until now,” he said. “Hopefully I can score next time.”

If his assist opened the door, Brentford’s counter-attacking finished the job. Chelsea, chasing an equaliser, were punished when Igor Thiago broke away to double the lead, and stoppage time brought the final flourish as Fabio Carvalho swept in a third to cap an emphatic scoreline.

Bees buzzing into the break

The result stretches Brentford’s unbeaten run to six league matches and sends them into the three-week international break sitting comfortably in the European qualification places. The timing could hardly be better for Andrews, who now has breathing space to rest key players and sharpen a side that looks increasingly sure of itself at both ends of the pitch.
