Bianca Cavalcanti Leads Bisons to Stunning Comeback Victory

The Manitoba Bisons didn’t just steal a win in Lethbridge. They tore the script up in the final 10 minutes and handed Fabio Capone his first victory as interim head coach in the most dramatic fashion possible.

Down 2-0 with less than a quarter of an hour to play, still carrying the sting of a 2-1 loss to the Lethbridge Pronghorns the day before, Manitoba looked headed for a winless weekend. The hosts had controlled the scoreboard, if not always the play, and took a deserved lead into halftime after striking in the 25th minute.

When Lethbridge doubled their advantage in the 73rd minute, the Bisons’ task shifted from difficult to desperate. On the road. Two goals down. A new coach still searching for his first win. That’s usually where teams fold.

This group didn’t.

The spark came in the 81st minute. Bianca Cavalcanti finally broke through, finding the back of the net to slice the deficit to 2-1 and inject life into a game that had been slipping away. Suddenly, the Bisons had a pulse.

They didn’t waste it. Just over two minutes later, Cavalcanti struck again. Same scorer, same ruthless finish, and in a blink Manitoba were level at 2-2. The Pronghorns, who had seemed in control for most of the afternoon, were suddenly hanging on.

The pressure finally told.

With momentum roaring in Manitoba’s favour, Cavalcanti completed a sensational hat trick in the 88th minute, smashing home the winner and completing a three-goal blitz in under seven minutes. From 2-0 down to 3-2 up, the Bisons had turned a bruising weekend into a statement.

Cavalcanti finished with all three Manitoba goals, the clear driving force of an attack that refused to accept defeat. Behind her, goalkeeper Bridget Murphy claimed the win in goal, steady when the Bisons needed a platform for their late surge.

For Capone, it was more than just three points and a first conference victory of the season. It was a validation of the work being done away from the spotlight.

The Bisons head back to Winnipeg with a split from the weekend series and something even more valuable: belief. Next up is homecoming at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Princess Auto Stadium, where the Herd will play in front of a home crowd that can get in for free.
