Besiktas Target Antony for Bold Market Move
Besiktas are making a bold move in the market – and they’ve set their sights on Antony.
The Istanbul giants, still stung after missing out on Mohamed Salah, have turned to the former Manchester United winger as their marquee attacking target, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik. Salah chose Trabzonspor, not Vodafone Park. Besiktas now want a response.
From record sale to revival
Antony’s name still carries weight in Europe. In 2022 he left Ajax as their record outgoing transfer, joining Manchester United for at least €95 million. That fee brought pressure, scrutiny and, ultimately, frustration. He never truly lived up to the billing at Old Trafford and eventually moved out on loan before cutting ties for good.
Last year, Real Betis stepped in with a €22 million deal, a move that looked like a reset. It worked.
In Spain, the Brazilian rebuilt his reputation. Across all competitions last season, he produced 14 goals and 10 assists, finally resembling the dynamic, incisive winger who lit up the Eredivisie. That resurgence has not gone unnoticed.
Betis open to a deal – at a price
Despite his strong campaign, Betis are not slamming the door shut. Reports in Spain suggest the Seville club are prepared to listen if the right offer lands on the table. Antony’s market value is estimated at around €40 million, and his contract runs until mid-2030, giving Betis leverage in any negotiation.
Besiktas know that. They also know they are not alone.
Clubs from across Europe’s top five leagues are monitoring the situation, sensing an opportunity if Betis decide to cash in on a player whose stock has risen again in La Liga.
Besiktas’ statement chase
For Besiktas, this is about more than just adding another winger. The club want proven quality and European experience as they reshape the squad for the new campaign. Landing Antony would send a clear message, both domestically and abroad, that they intend to operate at a higher level.
The financial hurdle is significant, but the determination is clear. Besiktas are prepared to explore every possible structure and avenue to make the deal work, testing Betis’ resolve as the window ticks towards its close.
If they succeed, Antony would walk into a direct battle for the right flank with former Ajax team-mate Václav Cerny. Two left-footed wide men, one position, one of Istanbul’s most demanding fanbases watching every touch. It would be a fascinating duel.
For now, the next few days will be decisive. Besiktas must fight off rival suitors, satisfy Betis, and convince Antony that his next big chapter lies in Istanbul.
