Bayern Munich's Friendly Win Overshadowed by Musiala's Collapse
Bayern Munich’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig in the Munich heat came with a jolt of anxiety, as Jamal Musiala, Konrad Laimer and Minjae Kim all failed to finish the match.
For long stretches it felt like a routine summer run-out. Bayern moved the ball crisply, found their goals, and looked largely in control against Leipzig. Then the sun, the tempo and a sudden collapse turned the afternoon.
Musiala collapses after scoring
Musiala had just done what he so often does: drift into space and find the net to make it 3-1. Moments later, with no opponent near him, he suddenly went down.
Ismael Saibari reacted first, sprinting towards him and managing to catch the Germany international before he hit the turf. Joshua Kimmich charged over as well, urgently calling for help.
Medical staff rushed on. A stretcher followed. For several minutes, the Allianz crowd watched in near silence as Musiala received treatment in the searing temperatures.
The tension eased only when he finally rose, unsteady but upright, and left the pitch supported by the team doctor rather than on the stretcher that had been brought out for him.
After the final whistle, board member for sport Max Eberl offered the first reassurance, even as the club waited on full tests. “The most important thing is that he’s doing well,” he said, with no official diagnosis yet confirmed.
Laimer and Kim also forced off
The concern had started earlier in the game. Konrad Laimer, facing his former club, pulled up after a challenge and immediately clutched his right thigh. He received treatment on the pitch but could not continue and was substituted. Bayern are still awaiting a precise diagnosis.
Minjae Kim also had to come off, adding another note of caution to what should have been a straightforward friendly win.
Bayern got their 3-1 result against RB Leipzig. They now wait for the medical reports that will matter far more than the scoreline.
