The forward broke the tibia and fibula in his left leg shortly before half-time in the 1-1 draw against Volos in the third round of the Greek top flight, Greek outlet Sportal reported. The incident brought a chilling silence over the stadium and instantly raised fears of a serious setback for one of Olympiacos’s key attacking weapons.

Surgery successful in Athens

El Kaabi was operated on in Athens, with Olympiacos club doctor Christos Theos leading the procedure alongside his medical team. Sportal said the surgery was completed successfully, a crucial first step in what will be a long road back.

Greek website Sport 24 detailed the club’s official communication, noting that the operation was carried out “smoothly” at the B. Valeriou clinic, part of the Athens Medical Centre. Olympiacos also stressed that the immediate post-surgery phase is unfolding according to plan.

The club has already moved him into the next phase. Rehabilitation begins immediately, with the clear objective of a gradual, safe and ultimately full return to competitive action.

Six to seven months out

The scale of the damage means Olympiacos will have to live without their striker for most of the season. Protothema reported that El Kaabi is expected to be out for between six and seven months.

That timeline is not set in stone. The same report underlined that the exact length of his absence will depend heavily on how his body responds to treatment and the demands of rehabilitation.
