Arsenal Hit by Two Injuries Before Chelsea Clash

Mikel Arteta is dealing with selection challenges as two important Arsenal players missed training ahead of their big match against Chelsea. Bruno Guimaraes and Cristhian Mosquera were absent during Thursday's open session at London Colney, casting doubt on their availability for the weekend fixture.

Guimaraes and Mosquera Miss Training

The Gunners' preparations have been disrupted by injuries to both the new signing Bruno Guimaraes and defender Cristhian Mosquera. Guimaraes joined Arsenal from Newcastle United this summer for £75 million but has been hampered by a persistent groin problem. He missed the opening Premier League game against Coventry City and only managed 19 minutes off the bench against Aston Villa.

Arteta has been cautious with Guimaraes, managing his minutes carefully given the team's midfield options. Losing him for the clash with Chelsea would hurt the team's tactical plans.

Defensive Worries Grow

Mosquera's situation appears more concerning. The Spanish defender had to be substituted late in the Aston Villa game after feeling unwell. Arteta described the substitution as a precaution, but there is uncertainty about whether Mosquera will be fit to start against Chelsea.

"He's fine, but he was feeling like he was about to have something, and that's why we have the bench that we have," Arteta said after the win at Villa Park.

If Mosquera cannot play, Ezri Konsa, who joined from Aston Villa last month for £51 million, is expected to step into the defense for his home debut at the Emirates.

More Defensive Depth Concerns

On top of this, Jurrien Timber remains doubtful for the weekend, further stretching Arsenal's defensive resources. With William Saliba still sidelined due to an extended injury, Arteta's options are limited early in the season.

Arsenal and Chelsea both began the Premier League campaign with perfect records. Arsenal recorded a 3-0 win over Coventry City followed by a narrow 1-0 victory against Aston Villa. Chelsea secured thrilling wins against Fulham (3-2) and Brighton (4-3), setting up a high-stakes London derby.
