Alonso and Arbeloa Kick Off New Era at Craven Cottage

Two familiar faces from the Bernabéu step into very different dugouts tonight. West London, not Madrid. Craven Cottage, not the Champions League. But the spotlight is just as sharp.

Alvaro Arbeloa leads Fulham for the first time in a competitive match. Across the technical area, Xabi Alonso takes charge of Chelsea. Former Real Madrid team-mates and recent coaches at the club now collide as Premier League rivals, kick-off at 20:00 BST by the Thames.

Arbeloa sticks, Alonso twists

Arbeloa has seen enough in pre-season to trust the XI that finished the summer. He names the same line-up that started the Cottagers’ final warm-up game, a clear signal that he wants continuity on day one rather than experimentation.
