The headline name is Mykhailo Mudryk. Cleared to play again, the 25-year-old Ukraine international flew overnight and touched down in Hong Kong on Monday, travelling alongside the experienced Danny Welbeck as Chelsea’s touring party thickens.

Mudryk’s return gives Alonso exactly what he has been missing in wide areas: raw pace, direct running, and a player capable of snapping a flat pre-season game to life with one surge. For a manager trying to imprint an aggressive, front-foot style, having the winger available again changes the dynamic of the tour.

Welbeck’s presence, meanwhile, offers a different type of boost — a seasoned option in attack who understands the rhythms of elite-level preparation and can steady a young dressing room still finding its voice.

New £40m winger and a battle in goal

They are not the only arrivals. Geovany Quenda, the £40m signing from Sporting, has also joined up with the squad. The winger steps into a fiercely competitive attacking unit, yet his fee and reputation suggest he is not here to make up the numbers.

Alongside him is goalkeeper Mike Penders, who walks straight into a live contest. Alonso has openly hinted that the number-one shirt is up for grabs, with Penders set to challenge Robert Sanchez through the rest of pre-season.
