Tyson Fury Plans to Invite Donald Trump for Anthony Joshua Fight
Tyson Fury is known for turning his fights into events full of spectacle, often using dramatic entrances filled with pyrotechnics and music to fire up fans before the first punch is thrown. Now, he's aiming to add another level of drama for what might be the biggest British boxing match ever — his bout against fellow Brit and former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
The fight will take place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on December 11th. But this time, Fury has plans that could stir some controversy, as he intends to invite the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to join him during his ring walk.
The Long-Awaited Clash Between Fury and Joshua
After years of delays caused by stubborn negotiations and some poorly timed losses for both fighters, the superfight between Fury and Joshua finally seems set to happen on UK soil.
Fury has always been upfront about wanting the biggest payday possible, even if it means risking the fight not happening. When rumors floated about holding the fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, he showed eagerness since a US venue would guarantee a hefty paycheck.
But Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn insisted the fight had to be in Britain, even accepting a significant pay cut to make it happen there. Eventually, the near-74,000-seat stadium in Cardiff was chosen.
Fury’s Theatrical Ring Walks
Regardless of location, Fury is famous for creating a charged atmosphere with elaborate ring entrances. In 2020, when he beat Deontay Wilder for the WBC title, he appeared on a throne wearing a crown and robe at the MGM Grand. A year later, he entered dressed as a Spartan warrior to AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
In early 2022, defending his WBC belt against Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium, Fury combined tunes like “American Pie,” “Jerusalem,” and “Your Sex Is On Fire,” while sporting gear inspired by the English flag. His fights against Oleksandr Usyk saw similarly theatrical entrances, including songs like “Holding Out For A Hero” and “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Trump’s Potential Role in the Fight
For the December megafight, Fury is planning to bring back his flair for drama, but this time with an unexpected guest. He revealed he'll offer Donald Trump the chance to accompany him on the ring walk.
"I'll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, and we'll see if he's available. It's probably unlikely because of the situation he's in at the moment, being the President of the United States," Fury said.
With midterm elections approaching in November and ongoing conflicts overseas, Trump’s schedule is packed. Since the fight is no longer in the US, Fury’s prediction that Trump’s attendance might not happen seems reasonable.
