The Nature of Saliba's Injury

Saliba aggravated a pre-existing back injury while playing for France in the World Cup semifinal against Spain. Early in the match, he required treatment on the field, visibly expressing discomfort to teammates. Reports suggest that he had been managing this injury throughout the latter part of the club season, including the final stages of the Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

The exact diagnosis remains unclear—possibilities range from a fracture or slipped disc to nerve-related issues. Before the World Cup injury worsened, Saliba acknowledged ongoing minor problems but chose to play through them, understanding the importance of the competitions at stake.

"I've had some minor niggles for several months," Saliba said during the World Cup. "I've been gritting my teeth because there was the Champions League and the Premier League. The World Cup comes around only once every four years, so you've got to grit your teeth. I'm not at 100%, but there are plenty of players who aren't at 100% either. You can't make excuses."

Expected Return Date
