Tottenham Acquire Brazil Winger Savinho from Manchester City for £75m

Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City with an initial fee of £75 million. The 22-year-old has committed to a long-term contract with Spurs, and the club may pay up to £10 million more through performance-related add-ons.

The transfer took over a year to complete after Tottenham’s unsuccessful attempt to sign him last summer. Savinho had chosen to stay at the Etihad Stadium but found limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola, starting only seven Premier League matches last season.

"It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here," Savinho said. "It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world. As soon as I spoke to the head coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Background and Career

Savinho joined Manchester City in 2024 from French side Troyes for £30.8 million. He has made 84 appearances for City, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists. The winger has earned 13 caps for Brazil, netting once.

This summer, Spurs have also signed Mateus Fernandes (West Ham), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle), and Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton) for a combined total of £312 million. They added defenders Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson on free transfers, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Savinho’s playing time dropped last season after City signed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in January. He logged 821 Premier League minutes, scoring once and assisting once, appearing in just 31% of City's total minutes across all competitions. This was a sharp decline from the previous season when he featured in 54% of available minutes.

Still, his 2024-25 stats justify Tottenham’s investment. Savinho provided eight Premier League assists—all from open play—while playing only 1,773 minutes. Only five players had more open-play assists than him that season.

At City, Savinho mostly played on the right wing, covering 36% of his minutes there compared to 20% on the left, showing versatility that could be valuable for Tottenham.
