Tottenham's Fast Moves: Senesi Joins, Robertson and Palhinha Next?

Tottenham have barely had time to exhale after dodging relegation, but the rebuild has already begun at full tilt. Roberto De Zerbi wanted clarity before the final whistle of the season; now he has it, the club is moving with purpose.

The first piece is in place. Marcos Senesi is on his way.

Senesi set to be first through the door

Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark confirmation that Senesi will join Spurs, with the Bournemouth defender long understood to have an agreement in principle that hinged on Tottenham staying in the Premier League.

They survived. The clause kicked in.

Senesi, an Argentina international with a rugged edge and comfort on the ball, is expected to arrive on a free transfer. For a club that flirted with disaster, securing a starting-calibre defender without a fee represents smart, opportunistic business.

Tottenham see him as a cornerstone of a new-look back line, the first of three deals they want wrapped up quickly to avoid another summer of drift.

Robertson: unfinished business with Spurs?

Attention now turns to the left flank and a name that needs no introduction in English football: Andrew Robertson.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are pushing to complete a Bosman move for the Scotland captain after he announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of his contract. This is not a new flirtation. Spurs were close to landing him in January before Liverpool pulled the plug, wary of weakening their own squad mid-season.

That hesitation is gone now. So is his contract.

Like Senesi, Robertson is also said to have had a provisional agreement to join Tottenham, again contingent on the club securing top-flight safety. With that box ticked, De Zerbi and the hierarchy are pressing to get the deal over the line.

Robertson would bring more than just a famous engine and wicked left foot. He would arrive as a leader, a serial competitor, and a player who knows what it takes to live at the sharp end of the Premier League and the Champions League. For a Spurs side that has just stared into the abyss, that kind of mentality has real value.

Pairing Senesi and Robertson would instantly inject experience and steel into a defence that creaked under pressure all season. It is no coincidence that Tottenham’s early business is focused on the back line. De Zerbi knows the platform has to be rebuilt before anything else.

Palhinha pursuit tests Spurs’ resolve

The third strand of this early-summer push is more complicated.

Joao Palhinha remains a priority target, with Tottenham prepared to negotiate with Bayern Munich to bring the midfielder to north London. The move, though, is far from straightforward.

Reports in Portugal have linked Palhinha with three of the country’s biggest clubs, with suggestions he could be tempted by a return home for family reasons. That possibility has created tension behind the scenes at Spurs, who are wary of being drawn into a bidding and emotional tug-of-war.

Even so, the club remain confident they can strike a deal. They see Palhinha as the anchor their midfield has lacked: aggressive, disciplined, and capable of dictating the tempo in the most chaotic of games. For a side that has too often lost control in key moments, he would change the dynamic.

The stakes are obvious. Land Senesi, Robertson and Palhinha, and Tottenham’s spine looks transformed almost overnight. Miss out, and the sense of a fragile reset lingers.

De Zerbi’s relief on the final day quickly gave way to urgency. Survival was the minimum. The next question is blunt and unavoidable: can Spurs turn that narrow escape into the foundation of a return to European nights, or will this summer be remembered as another opportunity that slipped through their fingers?
