The summer transfer window has finally burst into life. England’s heavyweights are moving money, lining up medicals and testing the resolve of rivals, with Arsenal and Manchester United at the heart of a frantic day of deals and positioning.

Arsenal load up for Guimaraes push

Arsenal are preparing one of the boldest moves of the window as they step up their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes after the midfielder told Newcastle he wants to leave.

The Gunners have already made their intentions clear behind the scenes. Initial conversations with the Brazilian’s camp have taken place and, although Newcastle insist their midfield lynchpin is not for sale, the pressure is building. It has been claimed Arsenal floated at least one proposal in the region of £55million during positive talks, and a concrete bid is expected now Guimaraes has formally signalled his desire to move on.

The scale of Arsenal’s ambition is striking. They are ready to commit close to £200m on Guimaraes and top attacking target Morgan Rogers, with Bradley Barcola also on the list at a price of around £130m. This is not tinkering at the edges. It is a full-on attempt to reshape the squad’s core.

Behind the headline numbers, the club are still quietly ticking off the depth pieces. Former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier has passed his medical and is set to join on a free transfer as third-choice, reinforcing a position that has already seen Piero Hincapie’s loan made permanent.

The strategy is clear: cast the net wide, then close in on the elite few. Guimaraes now sits at the very top of that list.

United and Chelsea trade blows over midfield

At Old Trafford, Manchester United have finally landed on a midfield deal of their own. They have agreed a £50m fee with Chelsea for Andrey Santos, a significant investment in a player the London club were still moulding for the future.

Chelsea’s work does not stop there. Talks continue over Maxence Lacroix and Pep Chavarria as the Blues look to rebuild a defensive unit that has lacked stability and presence.

Tottenham spend again, Liverpool hunt Salah heir

Across north London, Tottenham show no sign of easing off the accelerator. Despite already spending more than £230m, they are ready to go big once more, this time for Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi.

The teenager could cost close to £100m. That figure underlines just how highly he is rated and how aggressively Spurs intend to arm their attack for the coming seasons. Rafael Leao has also been linked, a name that would instantly transform the feel of Ange Postecoglou’s frontline.

Up on Merseyside, Liverpool are working on the question that has hovered over the club for months: who follows Mohamed Salah?

The latest name on the list is Crysencio Summerville. The forward has emerged as a serious candidate as Liverpool look for pace, goals and a wide threat capable of evolving into a long-term successor to one of the club’s modern greats.

Villa dig in, rivals circle

Not everyone is willing to play ball. Aston Villa are preparing to fight hard to keep Ezri Konsa, with the club determined to make life as awkward as possible for Arsenal.

Villa do not want to lose their centre-back and, according to reports, will throw up every barrier they can if negotiations with the Gunners ever move from interest to formal talks.

At the same time, Villa are braced for more interest around their squad. Juventus are chasing Emiliano Martinez and have already held talks with his representatives. The goalkeeper has an agreement in principle on a three-year deal in Turin, but Villa want around €10m for their No1 and the Italian club are not yet willing to match that figure. For now, the stalemate holds.

Nusa, Adeyemi and a new wave of forwards

The World Cup has thrown up its usual crop of breakout stars, and Premier League clubs are circling.

Arsenal are among those tracking Antonio Nusa, Norway’s standout performer at the tournament. The RB Leipzig forward, valued between €50m and €60m, is also attracting strong interest from Tottenham, with Newcastle, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace keeping a close watch. It is the kind of multi-club tug of war that has become the norm for Europe’s brightest young attackers.

Karim Adeyemi is moving closer to a new stage in his career. The Borussia Dortmund winger has agreed personal terms with Barcelona and wants the switch to La Liga, with his current deal in Germany running down next year. The Brazilian has made no secret of his desire to return to the Bernabeu. At this stage, though, Real are not actively pursuing a deal. The door is not open, but it is not yet bolted shut either, and summers in Madrid have a habit of changing quickly.
