Regis Pitbull, Former Corinthians and Vasco Striker, Faces Homelessness Amid Crack Addiction

Regis Pitbull, once a notable striker for Corinthians and Vasco da Gama, is now living on the streets of São Paulo, battling a harsh addiction to crack cocaine. At 49 years old, the former footballer has become nearly unrecognizable due to years of substance abuse, isolating him from family and forcing him to seek refuge in makeshift shelters.

Life on the Streets

According to journalist Emilio Botta of Globo Esporte, Regis currently resides in the Pirituba neighborhood of northern São Paulo. His shelter consists of tarps, old blankets, and cardboard in a small area filled with rubble and trash. His fight against crack addiction has taken away his home, dignity, and much of the support he once had from loved ones.

A Heartbreaking Admission

"It's better if they think I'm dead... I don't want anyone to know I exist," Regis confessed during an interview with Botta, revealing the depth of his despair.

Concerns about Regis' condition first emerged when former teammates from an amateur team noticed his health decline. His substance issues date back to his playing days, where he twice tested positive for cannabis in anti-doping tests.

Career Impacted by Addiction

Regis played for several clubs including Ponte Preta, Coritiba, Bahia, Portuguesa, as well as teams abroad in Japan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Throughout his career, he scored 49 goals in 170 matches. Yet after retiring, drugs took control of his life. A 2025 arrest for assaulting a building manager worsened his situation, leading to eviction from his apartment.

Ongoing Legal Issues

His last remaining apartment faces civil court action due to unpaid condo fees and property taxes. Despite the threat of foreclosure, reports say Regis still hopes to reclaim the property someday.
