Real Madrid’s summer of big swings is not slowing down. After landing Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella, and striking an agreement with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande at a huge fee, the European champions are now going after one of the most influential midfielders in world football: Rodri.

Mourinho steps into the spotlight

According to journalist Matteo Moretto on Radio MARCA, Jose Mourinho has moved from the touchline to the front line of this pursuit. The Portuguese coach is personally involved in the attempt to lure the 30-year-old from Manchester City to the Santiago Bernabéu.

He hasn’t limited himself to internal meetings or scouting reports. Mourinho has spoken directly with Rodri on multiple occasions and, inside Valdebebas, there is no doubt: the Spain international is one of his priority targets.

That personal push matters. Rodri has long been keen on the idea of playing in Madrid, but until recently Florentino Pérez had not fully opened the door. Mourinho’s insistence — and his vision of Rodri as a cornerstone of his new Madrid — has helped tilt the president’s stance.
