Florentino Pérez has staked his re‑election campaign on bringing another galáctico to the Bernabéu – and all roads point to Michael Olise.

The Real Madrid president, expected to see off challenger Enrique Riquelme in this weekend’s election, is preparing a €150m (£130m) bid for the Bayern Munich winger if he secures another term. Publicly, Pérez has denied that Olise is the mystery target he teased to Spanish media on Thursday. Privately, the 22-year-old is understood to be at the top of Madrid’s summer agenda.

Pérez has promised Madridistas a marquee signing next week, a statement of intent after two seasons without a trophy. Riquelme has tried to match that ambition with his own headline pledge: Erling Haaland. That promise has already provoked a threat of legal action from Manchester City, underlining just how high the stakes – and the rhetoric – have climbed in this presidential race.

Olise the chosen one

Real have also registered interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves, but the hierarchy are expected to channel their resources into Olise once the presidency is settled. At Bayern, Olise has done far more than just settle. A €150m offer tests any club’s resolve, but Bayern’s stance suggests this could be a drawn-out battle rather than a quick negotiation.

All of it is framed by Madrid’s recent frustration. Two years without a trophy is an eternity at the Bernabéu. The response is already under way.
