According to journalist Juanma Rodriguez, speaking to Defensa Central, the European giants are preparing to go again. Three more signings. A deeper cut into the market. A clearer imprint of José Mourinho on this squad.

Six In, But the Job’s Not Finished

The early work has been anything but timid.

Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries arrived before the World Cup, a quartet that instantly raises the technical and physical level of the team. After that, Carlos Espi and Yan Diomande stepped up to the first-team setup, adding fresh legs and new competition.

On paper, that looks like a complete overhaul. In Mourinho’s mind, it is only phase one.

Rodriguez insists the club hierarchy are still active. As he puts it, Real Madrid are planning three more signings before the window closes, with a centre-back and a midfielder already clearly marked as priorities.

Mourinho’s Demands Shape the Market

That is where Alessandro Bastoni comes in.

The Italian is one of the defenders most closely linked with Mourinho’s plans and, according to the reports, one of his preferred options. A left-footed, high-level centre-back who fits the profile of a starter, not a rotation piece. But his arrival is not straightforward.

For Bastoni to come, Raul Asencio may have to go. Asencio is not part of Mourinho’s plans, and his departure could trigger the chain reaction that opens the door to a major defensive signing. Until then, the centre-back puzzle remains incomplete.

Midfield: The Missing Piece in Front of the Defence

If the defence is being sharpened, the midfield is being recalibrated.

Mourinho wants a specific type of player there: a positional midfielder who can sit in front of the back line, read danger early, and give the more creative players the freedom to operate higher up the pitch. This has been one of his recurring demands since he arrived.

Real Madrid are scanning the market and keeping several names under close watch. Among them, Adam Wharton and Kees Smit stand out as options under consideration. Both fit the broad profile the club is chasing, but at this stage, no final decision has been made.
