Real Madrid’s hunt for another superstar forward has already hit two brick walls – one in Munich, one across town in Madrid.

Bayern slam the door on Olise

According to Fabrizio Romano, Florentino Pérez had set his sights firmly on Michael Olise. This was not a vague enquiry or a passing interest. “I can say with absolute certainty that Florentino Pérez intended to pursue Michael Olise, and representatives of Real Madrid have confirmed this,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

The pursuit barely got off the ground.

Bayern Munich, led by club president Herbert Hainer, moved quickly and decisively. The German champions shut down the idea before Pérez could even put a formal offer on the table. No negotiating, no haggling, no drawn‑out saga.

Olise’s status in Bavaria explains the stance. The Frenchman is tied to Säbener Straße until 2029 and, internally, is viewed as untouchable. His numbers over the past two seasons have given Bayern every reason to dig in. Last term alone, he produced 53 goal contributions in 52 competitive games – 22 goals and 31 assists – and drove the club to a domestic double.

Romano summed up the mood in Munich: “FC Bayern have completely shut the door, both behind closed doors and publicly, and did not want to enter into any negotiations.” With that, one ambitious target was gone. Madrid had to look elsewhere.

From Munich to Madrid: Alvarez next on the list

The next name on the agenda came from much closer to home: Julián Álvarez at Atlético Madrid.

Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that they had put a €150 million bid on the table for the Argentine striker. A statement of intent, and a figure that would shatter most clubs’ transfer records. Atlético’s response was blunt.

The club pointed directly to Álvarez’s release clause. The 26‑year‑old is protected by a €500 million buyout, a number set at a level designed to scare off even the richest suitors. Under Spanish regulations, every player must have a fixed release clause, and top clubs routinely push those clauses into the stratosphere to keep predators at arm’s length.

For now, it has worked. Madrid’s opening offer sits a long way short of that figure. There is no confirmation of a second bid, no sign yet that Pérez is ready to test Atlético’s resolve again.

A battle brewing with Barcelona

Complicating matters further, Álvarez is not only on Real Madrid’s radar. FC Barcelona are also tracking the forward, and the Argentine is said to lean towards the Catalan side over Los Blancos.

So Madrid find themselves in an awkward position. Their first choice, Olise, is locked behind Bayern’s iron gate. Their next target, Álvarez, is shielded by a colossal release clause and a city rival unwilling to strengthen the champions. On top of that, any escalation could spark a full‑blown tug‑of‑war with Barcelona.
